Balcony, a design boutique setup by 2 aspiring designers to promote multi-disciplinary design. Having been armed with experiences from freelancing in various planes of designing from interior to web to product.
Balcony was the brainchild of Des (creative)and JT (art) . Initially started as a pet project, Balcony was seen as just an outlet to vent off artistic inspiration that occasionally catches hold of our 2 designers. As Balcony’s popularity started to climb and a small fan base started growing, Des and JT realized that they had begun a new chapter I n street art expression. Thus a decision was then made to turn Balcony into a tee label and develop it further overseas.
Both designers turn artists start to create sketches to express themselves. With their perspectives firmly ingrained in their Asian roots, the designs created followed suit, thus developing a distinctive Asian mood in each and every pen stroke. Like most Asian countries, Singapore is one that is also greatly influenced by the west. However as designers, a new direction was adopted by fusing east and west to create a more interesting re-interpretation.
Inspiration was drawn from all cultural arts around the world and presented in Balcony’s flagship series called the minimalist collection. A total of 8 tee designs were featured in this series with the intention to inspire the masses. The first of the tees to be created bore the namesake of the entire label, Balcony. It was considered one of the series’ success stories as its popularity reigned amongst all other designs. Incorporating a rustic look, famous during Singapore’s 70s period, both color and design were chosen to create one look. Vintage.
Geisha, a courtesan from the land of the rising sun, is an iconic representation of Asia. In this particular design, she dons on a new look with a French floral motif in muted colors. Other interesting and unique subjects selected for this series are the likes of Buddha, old folks and the lonely nomad girl.
